Opportunities for Young Writers

There are some great opportunities around for new writers right now, not least at the NAWE Young Writers Hub . And Birmingham’s Gentlemen Press have a competition for young writers based in the Midlands – I’ve not heard of them before, but the judges of their competition are all writers, which is important, there’s no fee for entering and winners get free copies of the anthology.

Also, if I was still teaching English, I’d be very excited about Picador’s Anthologise competition, which puts the emphasis where it belongs and directly encourages schools to nurture writing.

I was in Gloucester College at their Forest of Dean campus yesterday, working with students as part of the G15 residency – what a great place that is, and a lovely part of the world. Here’s Carl’s apology poem:

Sorry

for being the best student

ever.
