I am running sessions for AQA as part of their ‘English 2010 Ready Conferences’ on ‘Bringing Poetry to Life in the Classroom’ in Bristol (1st October), Birmingham (7th October) and Manchester (12th October).
Synopsis of Presentation: This session will present a variety of practical, innovative approaches to reading and responding to poetry, suitable for students of all abilities, with reference to the new anthology and the requirements of the 2010 specifications. The session includes an introduction to writing poems in the classroom, using workshop techniques developed by established writers. Reading and writing are interdependent: ‘reading as writers’ enables students to read and respond to poetry with confidence, insight and understanding. The skills involved in writing poems can also have benefits for the close reading of other texts, and for writing in all genres.
