‘Teaching Poetry’ for PGCE students

On Wednesday I ran my annual session for PGCE Engish students at Edge Hill University on ‘Jumpstarting Poetry’. The session focused on the importance of writing poetry in secondary school, and how to teach it, using techniques developed from the writing workshop. It’s great to work with these students. I congratulated them on being there, and told them that teaching’s one of the most important jobs in the world, that English is the most important subject in school, and that teaching students how to write poems is one of the best part of teaching English.
